Tax Deductions That Are Sometimes Over Looked

1. Unreimbursed expenses related to your job
  • Subscriptions to trade journals to keep you informed about your trade.
  • Special clothes or uniforms required for your job as well as the cost for cleaning these items.
  • A computer if your job requires you to be able to access the network during off hours.
  • Union dues
  • Training, seminars, workshops

2.  Educational Expenses:

  • You can deduct tuition books and travel cost to and from school/classes IF your education is related to your career
  • Continuing education cost for professionals is deductible.

Note:  Educational expenses that enable you to change careers are not deductible.

3.  Job search and career counseling

  • After you land your first job, you can deduct cost related to finding another job in the same field (Even if the job interview is in Hawaii)
